dodge the floating eyes

rules

A tiny cyclops-octopus hybrid - one  of a kind in a  world filled with floating eyes. The eyes are not chasing Cyclopus because he is different. They believe he is one of them — an eye that has somehow grown a body. And now they want him back.

Help it stay alive by swimming upward, falling back down, and dodging everything that gets in the way.

The longer you survive, the better. One button, simple movement, quick reactions.

behind the scenes

This is the second small game project in my personal game development learning journey — and my first one made with Godot. My first project, Erik, was built in PICO-8, and with this game I wanted to take the next step: learning a new engine, finishing a tiny playable project, and actually publishing it.

The game is inspired by the simple one-button movement idea behind Jetpack Joyride: hold one button to move upward, release it to fall, and try to survive for as long as possible.

A lot of credit goes to The Net Ninja’s Godot tutorial on YouTube, as well as the many other great tutorials, learning initiatives, the excellent Godot documentation, and the wonderful Godot community.

AI also played an important role in this project — not as a replacement for learning, but as a teacher and sparring partner. I did not vibe code the game, and I did not blindly generate assets or paste in solutions I did not understand. Instead, I used AI to understand concepts, debug issues, structure my thoughts, and keep moving when I got stuck.

The goal was not to make something huge or perfect. The goal was to finish a small game, learn from the process, publish it, and continue the journey.

I’d absolutely love your feedback — especially on game feel, readability, difficulty, presentation, or anything that could help me improve as a beginner game developer.
